No. We will start passing the hat around at meetings to help pay for the nominal costs of renting the venue since we no longer meet at Kadena Marina.
Absolutely! Okilele is made up of Okinawan, American and Japanese ukulele enthusiasts of all playing abilities from absolute beginner to professional artists. Even if you don't own a ukulele, come check us out, you'll have fun.
Okilele doesn't provide formal lessons. We use a "jam session" or kanikapila-style (play-a-long style) at our meetings. We typically pick songs for the monthly meetings that have five or less chords to play for beginner players.
For advanced players, we usually have at least one song that will fit your skills.
You can buy one locally or if you have U.S. mail privileges you can order one on-line. Prices range from $25 to more than $2,500. It usually takes less than a week to arrive here in Okinawa.
Before you buy, come to our monthly meeting and check out what other people are playing before you purchase a ukulele. If you're polite, they may even let you take their ukulele for a "test run."
Any member of The International Ukulele Club of Okinawa may become a member of the island-style band.
If you regularly attend the practice sessions, you're in. That simple.
Okilele -- The International Ukulele Club of Okinawa -- is a friendship club of ukulele enthusiasts that meets monthly. Anyone may join us at the meeting.
